Expanding Beyond Old Jerusalem’s Walls

The presentation will describe the events and geopolitical factors that brought the Ottoman rulers to allow increase of foreign settlement and the development of distinct neighborhoods around Jerusalem (1840-1914).  Among the settlers were Russian, British, French, and German citizens and among the religious representatives there were Jews, Muslims, Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox Christians.
