Friday night service on Thanksgiving weekend is usually rather quiet, with many people traveling or hosting out-of-town guests. Not this year! Many of us are scaling down holiday plans in response to the spike in the pandemic. This Friday will be a very special opportunity to reflect on thankfulness, on our community, and on our Jewish traditions, with music and prayer.
Songleaders will be leading the service, since Rabbi Greg is away. Trudie Lerner will give a welcoming message, and Sarah Pattison will give a Drash titled, “Give-Thanks-ing: Nothing is Normal This Year.” Meryl Rappaport will coordinate the order of the service, and Mark Joske will ensure that all the technology flows smoothly.
Some Songledeaders will sing a capella cantorial-style, while others will sing to accompaniment pre-recorded by another musician. Others will sing while playing guitar or piano. Some have pre-recorded their song. A small group gathered recently (six feet apart, outside) to record Tom Chapin’s Thanksgiving Song. We will also play a recording of “Grateful” by CBH’s own Dave Nachmanoff. Each musician will also say a few words about what they find meaningful in their selections.
As you can see, Songleaders are working hard to put together this service and we enjoy every minute of it. Please join us for this special service.
